Saint Quentin en Yvelines Velodrome Cycling Track

The Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium is part of the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome complex, just five minutes walk from the Velodrome. The Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome’s permanent infrastructures include enough space to be able to bring two Games venues together at one site, to the great delight of cycling fans. This close connection also makes it possible to pool certain facilities required for organising the BMX and track cycling events. Built at the same time as the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome, the BMX track will be redesigned and specially laid out for Paris 2024. It stands out by being fully covered and is open to the public and all skill levels, which makes it a very valuable facility for not only the Paris Region but also the whole country. Stands will be temporarily set up for the Games in order to welcome all of the spectators.

Olympic Cycling TrackSummer Olympics - Paris Olympic 2024

Cycling Track, a dynamic showcase of speed and tactical prowess, has been a constant presence in the Olympic Games since the early 20th century. Competitors navigate a banked oval track in events that test their sprinting and endurance abilities. Let's explore the rich history of the Olympic Cycling Track and spotlight the athlete who has clinched the most medals:

The inception of the Olympic Cycling Track occurred at the Stockholm Games in 1912, introducing a high-speed discipline to the Olympic roster. The competition unfolds on a specially designed banked oval track, presenting a unique and demanding environment for participating athletes. Olympic Cycling Track boasts a diverse array of events, including sprints, pursuits, keirins, and team pursuits. These contests demand a blend of explosive power, strategic acumen, and endurance, resulting in closely contested and thrilling competitions.

Various nations have left an indelible mark on Cycling Track throughout its history, with powerhouses like Great Britain, France, and the former Soviet Union (now represented by various independent nations) consistently producing top-tier cyclists. One of the luminaries in Olympic Track Cycling is Sir Chris Hoy from Great Britain. Hoy's illustrious career is adorned with multiple gold medals, establishing him as one of the most decorated athletes in the sport's history. His dominance in sprint events and keirins has etched an enduring legacy in Olympic Track Cycling.

Looking ahead to Paris 2024, Olympic track cycling events are scheduled between the 5th and 11th of August. The Paris 2024 velodrome will host 190 track cyclists, evenly distributed between men and women. Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of fourteen track cyclists, with specific allocations per event. The attribution of quota places will be based on points obtained in the UCI Track Olympic Ranking during the 2022 to 2024 season.
