Field Hockey: A Growing Presence in the U.S

Field hockey has traditionally been more popular in Europe, Asia, and Oceania. However, the sport is experiencing a surge in popularity in the United States, particularly among women. The establishment of youth programs, collegiate competitions, and national leagues has contributed to this growth. USA Field Hockey, the national governing body for the sport, has been instrumental in promoting the game through initiatives like the American Development Model and the "Dare to Differ" campaign, which aims to make field hockey accessible to all.

Olympic Format and Teams

The Olympic hockey tournaments will feature 12 teams each for men and women, competing in a round-robin group stage followed by knockout rounds. Each team will consist of 16 players, with 11 on the field at a time. The matches will be played on artificial turf, adhering to the standards set by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

The qualification process for the Olympics includes continental championships, world rankings, and special tournaments. The host nation, the United States, will automatically qualify for both the men's and women's tournaments.
