Olympic Shooting Tickets

Shooting will return to the Olympic stage at the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games, marking a significant milestone for the sport. The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has confirmed a comprehensive program featuring 15 events, maintaining the same number of competitions as in Paris 2024. A total of 340 athlete quota spots (170 men and 170 women) have been allocated, ensuring gender parity and a diverse field of competitors.

Venue and Schedule

The shooting competitions will be held in Southern California, with events taking place at two primary venues within Los Angeles County. Target shooting events will be hosted at a temporary indoor range at the Long Beach Convention Center, strategically located within walking distance of other Olympic disciplines. This central location aims to enhance the visibility and accessibility of the sport.

Shotgun events, including trap and skeet, will be conducted at the LA Clays Shooting Sports Park in El Monte, a renowned facility in Southern California. This venue offers a scenic backdrop and is expected to provide a world-class setting for the competitions.

Competition Format and Rule Changes

The LA 2028 Olympic shooting program will feature a mix of individual and team events across rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines. Notable changes to the competition format include:​

✔Increasing the number of finalists in shotgun events (trap and skeet) and the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event from six to eight.

✔Modifying the final for the 50m rifle 3 positions event to include only the standing position, despite qualification still requiring prone, kneeling, and standing positions.

✔Replacing the mixed team event in skeet with a trap mixed team event.

These adjustments aim to make the sport more spectator-friendly and align the competition formats across different disciplines.

Qualification and Athlete Preparation

The qualification process for shooting at LA 2028 will involve a series of World Cup events leading up to the Games. The ISSF plans to designate every World Cup two years before the Olympics as a quota event, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.

Athletes will have the opportunity to compete in various international competitions to secure their spots. For instance, veteran Venezuelan trap shooter Leonel Martinez, who began his Olympic journey at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, is aiming to qualify for the LA 2028 Summer Games, demonstrating the enduring appeal and accessibility of the sport.
