Arena AufSchalke currently known as Veltins-Arena for sponsorship reasons, is an indoor football stadium in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It opened on 13 August 2001, as the new home ground for Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04. It hosted the 2004 UEFA Champions League Final and five matches at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, including a quarter-final. It has a capacity of 62,271 (standing and seated) for league matches and 54,740 (seated only) for international matches. The stadium has a retractable roof and a retractable pitch. The naming rights to the stadium were sold on 1 July 2005 to the German brewery Veltins.

The England national football team embarked on their journey to qualify for the Euro Cup tournament in 1964, having abstained from the Euro Cup 1960 edition. Successfully qualifying in 1968, they have participated in ten finals and anticipate an eleventh in Euro 2024, with their notable absence in Euro Cup 1996 as the host nation exempt from qualifying.

England's pinnacle in the finals was a runner-up finish in the Euro Cup 2020, succumbing to Italy in a penalty shootout at Wembley. They secured third place in Italy in 1968 and reached another semi-final in 1996, bowing to Germany at home, also in a penalty shootout. Two quarter-final exits occurred in Euro Cup 2004 against Portugal and in 2012 against Italy, both decided by penalties.

In a surprising upset, the England Euro Cup team faced elimination in the round of 16 against Iceland in 2016. In the remaining instances (1980, 1988, 1992, and 2000), they failed to progress past the group stage.

In UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group C, featuring England Euro Cup side, Italy, Malta, North Macedonia, and Ukraine, the teams clashed in a round-robin format. This group witnessed a rematch of the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy. The top two teams, England and Italy, secured direct qualification to the final Euro 2024 in Germany.
