The French Open is held at the Stade Roland Garros, a complex of tennis courts and stadiums in Paris. This Grand Slam tennis championship, also known as Roland Garros, is held annually in late May or early June. The complex was built in 1928 to host France's first Davis Cup defence and is named after pioneering French aviator Roland Garros (1888–1918). The 13.5-hectare (34-section of land) complex contains twenty courts, including three huge limit arenas; Le Village, which houses the press and VIP areas, and Les Jardins de Roland Garros, a vast restaurant and bar complex; The National Training Center of France (CNE); and the Tenniseum, a multi-media, bilingual museum of tennis history.
